In 2010-2011, a small group of local military ministry leaders and like-minded military veterans prayed about a vision of ministry collaboration for the National Capital Region (NCR). Those prayers and follow-on discussions led to a new ministry outreach, the NCR Military Summit, forerunner to the current NCR Military Ministry Alliance. Its kickoff campaign began in 2012 with annual events around the NCR hosted by various churches and military bases. The goal of these teambuilding events was to provide educational and collaborative ministry opportunities to help facilitate relationship networks among Chaplains, military-friendly Pastors, Parachurch representatives, and other volunteers.
Our Beliefs and Vision
We embrace the Apostle Paul’s exhortation in Phillippians 1:5 which says, “Because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.” Therefore, our vision is to advance the gospel by working together, when possible. With God’s help, we believe we can accomplish this through:
a. Worship – Corporately lifting up the name of Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.
b. Raising Awareness – Highlighting the growing need for military ministry cooperation, integration, and partnership; and spotlighting the work of parachurch ministries, faith-based organizations, and others who can help.
c. Networking – Getting to know fellow ministry leaders and co-laborers in the NCR through small group discussions.
d. Collaboration – Exchanging ideas on ministry “best practices” that reflect teamwork, partnership, and integration – to include educating and informing local church leaders and congregations on how to become more “military-friendly” and supportive.
e. Prayer – Praying regularly for the military ministry needs in the NCR, while affirming the work currently being accomplished.
